ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani on Saturday postponed his scheduled official trip to Havana, Cuba, and summoned a session of the Upper House on Friday.
He was to proceed to Cuba – along with senators Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Nasreen Jalil, Nisar Muhammad, Shahi Syed, Gian Chand and Amjed Pervez -on the invitation of National Assembly of People’s Power Cuba President Esteban Lazo Hernandez. According to details, a requisition under Article 54(3) of the constitution was received in the late evening of October 28 in the Senate Secretariat, signed by Senator Taj Haider and 27 other senators. The chairman examined the requisition and found 26 signatures to be in order, thus meeting the requirements of Clause (3) of Article 54 of the constitution, read with Rules of Procedure and Conduct of the Business in the Senate, 2012. Therefore, in exercise of his powers under Clause (3) of Article 54, the chairman summoned a session of Senate on Friday, November 4, at 3:30pm at the Parliament House.
