LARKANA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said on Friday that six days have been passed with only 94 days remaining for the change Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had claimed to implement in 100 days of his rule.
Reportedly, he addressed a ceremony held to distribute sewing machines amongst the poverty-stricken women of the union committee-17.
“People need practical steps for change in the country, and not mere talks and claims,” he said, adding that after three months it would be clear whether claims of Naya Pakistan were actually implemented or not.
He asserted that the PPP would strive to outline and resolve critical issues which were being confronted by the poor masses of Pakistan.
He said that Sindh’s issues, particularly water scarcity, National Finance Commission (NFC) award, power outages of up to 14 hours would be put before the federal government.
He claimed that Pervez Musharraf’s regime and Imran Khan’s rule were ‘actually the continuity of the same agenda’.
“Thousands of acres of Sindh’s fertile land have been swallowed by sea due to lack of water,” he said, adding that the PPP demands the federal government to implement the 1991 Water Accord in its true spirit and essence.
He asserted that at least 10 million acre feet of water per year was required to save Sindh’s ecosystem.
Khuhro stated that the people of Sindh would not tolerate unjust distribution of financial resources and water supply.
Furthermore, he claimed that the PPP has initiated an effective poverty-reduction programme for the general public of Sindh, particularly women.
He revealed that sewing machines would be distributed amongst women in every union council on the monthly basis, so they could earn their livelihood.
Moreover, he stated that employment opportunities would be ensured for unemployed educated youths.
