A handshake between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Hamid Khan and Independent Senator and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during the session of the Upper House of Parliament on Tuesday sparked concerns among PTI supporters and social media users alike.
The session, which was boycotted by PTI, was convened to elect Senate chairman and deputy chairman.
The party had boycotted the elections over the lack of representation from KP amid reserved seats oath saga.
In the video posted to X, formerly Twitter, the PTI senator could be seen shaking hands and patting Mohsin Naqvi.
“Shaking hand with and patting arm of someone who has done every possible thing to damage the party and its leader isn’t right thing to do. Extremely unfortunate. Mohsin Naqvi is not even representative of a party. He is everything but not a sign of democracy and rule of law,” wrote PTI lawyer Abuzar Salman Niazi on X.
Another social media user slammed Hamid Khan for shaking hands with Naqvi. “Moshin Naqvi unleased a crackdown on PTI supporters during his previous tenure as Punjab interim chief minister and he [Hamid Khan] is embracing him,” he chimed in.
This come two days after PTI founder and incarcerated leader Imran Khan said that some of his party members were in cahoots with the establishment to dismantle the party.
Reports of infighting among PTI leaders are also making rounds of social media lately.
